Homeschool Day at Pump It Up

In depth discussion and online research of the Chixulub crater and the extinction of dinosaurs.  This led to more discussion on plate tectonics and Pangea and migration.

Looked through Astonomy Picture of the Day and discussed nebula, auroras, solar flares, etc.

Began Hogwarts Summer Homeschool Program in earnest.  Completed assignments in Potions, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, and Wandmaking.  Much of our usual work has been suspended to fit in her Hogwarts assignments.  (Anyone interested in doing this with their kids, I HIGHLY recommend it.  You can find it here:  Hogwarts Summer Correspondence School .  If you try it out, I'd love to hear how you like it!!)

Spectrum Spelling, Grade 2 - Page 36 & 37

Singapore Math 2A - textbook pages 64 through 73; discussed grams, kilograms, ounces, and pounds.  Weighed a multitude of objects in all possible combinations and then used a 3 beam scale to compare weights.

Time 4 Learning - 1 Language Arts (3rd grade) and 1 math (2nd grade)

Wrote lengthy letter to penpal in Scotland

Made Brownies - Syd made brownies almost entirely by herself.  She did all measuring, mixing, etc.  I just handled to putting them into the oven.  They were great!

Inspected our mold experiment.  Found 3 different types of mold growing.

Practiced using an Epi-pen.  Used the trainer on each other.

Singapore Math 2A, textbook page 57 & 58 - measured multiple items thoughout the house in both centimeters and inches.

Reviewed and corrected a math worksheet from last week.

Singapore Math 2A - textbook page 52 & 53; workbook page 67 (discussed metric system, cut a string the length of a meter and used it to measure various items around the house after estimating their length)

Dr. DooRiddles - pages 36 - 40 (completed book!)

Used large foam dice to play a math game (reviewing basic addition & subtraction facts to improve speed).  Rolled dice, subtracted the 2 numbers, moved forward the amount of the answer.  Later, played another game where I called out a number and Syd rolled a single die, then shouting out the addend of the 2 numbers.

Played 2 rounds of Math War with Dad

Independently designed, cut, and sewed a purse out of scrap material. Then she decorated it using fabric paints.

Time 4 Learning - 3rd grade Language Arts; suffixes

Completed a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting herself and Hermione. Identified descriptive characteristics and determined if they belonged to one of them, or were shared.

Singapore Math 2A Challenging Word Problems - page 5. Discussed and solved a few problems using mental math.

Spectrum Spelling, Grade 2 - page 29

Writing Skills, Grade 1 - page 28, 29, & 30

History Pockets ~ Colonial America - Finished "What Did Pilgrims Give Us?" pocket. Completed the book!

Looked up a science experiment and gathered needed materials to perform. Attempted, but needed assistance. Demonstrated how air pressure moves in waves.
